Football ARTicles is 152 pages of my blood, sweat and tears with some heart and soul thrown in for good measure. Not once did I phone it in. I had wanted to create an illustrated column and publish every Monday morning at 7am in addition to my freelance work in the hopes of making a ‘thing’ - a project that took off. The aim was to last one year, in the end I lasted eight months. I’ve released books before but the balance was always heavily on the artwork side. A dream was to make something like this, considered writing with relevant artwork. I knew I was ceasing the weekly releases when I was writing the final article and turned it into a bit of a personal memoir to end with a tone shift that suddenly cast the rest of the work in a different light. The design of the book was carried out with immense satisfaction, in the end I’m proud of what I made. There’s an unyielding part of me that wants to somehow get my art and writing into the world as a tangible thing that people can enjoy and I view this as a first step on that path, a line in the sand. If you pick it up, I hope you enjoy it.
